Herman Greene is the founder and president of the Center for Ecozoic Studies, and his newest endeavor is as the Founder of the Society for Earth Law. He is Thomas Berry Scholar-in-Residence of the Earth Law Center and is co-author and co-editor of the legal textbook Earth Law: Emerging Ecocentric Law—A Guide for Practitioners. He has lectured widely in the United States and internationally and has published many book chapters and journal articles. He has edited hundreds of articles for the Center for Ecozoic Studies and has written many articles for its publications as well. He holds graduate degrees in law (University of North Carolina-JD), theology (University of Chicago-MTh & MDiv, and United Theological Seminary-DMin), and political science (Stanford University-MA).
He began his career in 1967 with the Ecumenical Institute (EI) in Chicago where he worked on a community development project called “Fifth City” and led educational programs for and did consulting with churches on how they could address social issues. From 1979 until 2019, he practiced law in international tax, business transactions, finance, and bank regulation. From 1990 to 1991 he served as Director of Public Responsibility at the headquarters of the American Express Company in New York City where he promoted working with minority and women-owned businesses and serving an aging population. Herman was the founding Executive Director of the International Process Network, an association for process-relational philosophy, and served on its Governing Board from 2001 until 2023.
