The Institute

SOEL’s Thought Collective

  •  Members of The Institute are dedicated to developing a cohesive jurisprudence and overarching framework to support a Renaissance of values—aimed at driving essential legal, political, and economic transformations. The Institute will include both resident and visiting fellows drawn from diverse fields such as academia, law, activism, the arts, theology, and other areas of scholarship and thought leadership.

  • The Institute will articulate, rethink, and continually refine a coherent vision of the ordering principles of human societies to create a “Transformative Paradigm” that is rooted in a recognition of SOEL’s three ordering principles of relationality, reciprocity, and responsibility.

All life, human and non-human, exists only in relationship to each other and to all of Nature

— Relationality

As an integral part of the greater community of life, we are called to not only take from Nature, but to live in reciprocity and give back and pass-it-on to Nature, to each other, and to all life.

— Reciprocity

In gratitude for the bounty of nature, we are called to take responsibility for our actions and not only “do no harm,” but also affirmatively find ways to heal and care for all life and all of the planet.

— Responsibility
